Literary translations from English into Italian
Why did I choose literary translation?
During my years at the Facoulty of Foreign Languages (University of Turin) I've studied the theories of translations from English into Italian and in 2012 I made the decision to specialize in the translation of novels, novellas and short stories . My first official work was "Il banchetto nuziale", translation of the black comedy The Wedding Feast, by J. Pidduck (UK), available on Amazon.it, which I used for my thesis in 2013.
I love reading and translating, and I think there's nothing as challenging and satisfying as translating a good book. A translator needs to be experienced, professional and accurate. My aim is to improve my translation skills as much as possible and the best way to do that is through the experience!
How do I work?
My best translation tool is the Web. It's often difficoult to find expressions, idioms and cultural references in dictionaries. This is the reason why the web, if used properly, can be an excellent source of information.
Whenever I can, I take the opportunity to collaborate directly with the author, as I want to make sure the resulting translation is as loyal as possible to the source text.
This is one of the reasons why I like working for -and with- authors themselves, and why world of independent publishing is the best choice for me.
The literary genres I feel most comfortable with are thrillers, misteries, horror, black comedy, fantasy and romance, but I'm open to any other requests!
